A Matter of Fruit explores the potential of food waste, specifically fruit pomace, as a sustainable alternative to plastic and other environmentally harmful materials. By transforming juice press residues into functional surfaces through methods like casting, pressing, and 3D printing, the project demonstrates how biodegradable waste can replace conventional plastic packaging and even leather. The research prioritizes circular design, ensuring that the material can be reused, recycled, and naturally decomposed without excessive additives. Rather than forcing new materials into inefficient waste management systems, the project rethinks packaging as a valuable resource, extending the biological cycle of food waste and designing out waste altogether.
