How can fungal-based dyes in the textile industry promote sustainable practices and reduce environmental impact?

Colors are essential in industry, yet their production causes major environmental harm. Synthetic dyes are often toxic and damaging. Natural alternatives, such as fungal dyes, offer sustainable solutions.

The MycoColors project explores fungal-based dyes in combination with methods from biotechnology for the textile industry. The goal is to develop efficient extraction and dyeing processes to establish them as viable alternatives. By integrating material design and science, the project examines historical, ecological, and technological aspects. Practical experiments showcase how these dyes can support more sustainable, localized textile production.
