Prof. Dr. Zane Berzina

Zane Berzina is Professor at weißensee kunsthochschule berlin since 2008. Before then she was a Lecturer at the University of the Arts Berlin and at Goldsmiths, University of London as well as a Research Fellow at Constance Howard Resource and Research Centre in Textiles and Goldsmiths Digital Studios, University of London.

Since her doctorate studies at the University of the Arts in London (2000-2005), she has been working on various research projects at the intersections of design, art, science and technology. Her practice-led research and teaching synthesises concepts and processes related to the fields of Textile Futures, Soft Technologies, Material Culture, sustainability and interactivity by investigating how these practices influence our cultural and technological context, and by giving visual, material and conceptual form to these societal changes.

Berzina is a co-founder of eLab (Laboratory for Interactive Technologies) and greenlab (Laboratory for Sustainable Design Strategies) at weißensee kunsthochschule berlin. She is also a member of the project advisory board of the Federal Ecodesign Award, Berlin and DiGiTal – the Berlin University Programme for Women Scientists and Artists besides her work in other national and international committees. Since 2014 she has been the initiator and director of numerous multi-partner BMBF-funded research projects on behalf of the weißensee kunsthochschule berlin within the context of the Federal research consortiums smart³ I materials, solutions, growth and futureTEX.
