Our vivid research culture is rooted in the undergraduate and graduate study programmes offered by the Textile and Surface Design Department at the weißensee kunsthochschule berlin. Personal and topical synergies between education and research allow for an active development of relevant issues. The inclusion of current technological, cultural and socio-economic urgencies creates a wide field of references, combining traditional competences of textile design with contemporary issues of other disciplines. The development of a strong studio practice aspect and the ability to critically place own work within the border socio-cultural and technological contexts are core components of the course. A design approach is promoted that combines professionalism, critical thinking, transdisciplinary exchange and aesthetic autonomy. Collaborations with partners from science, research and industry enable the realisation of novel and meaningful design concepts.
